Snail, a work made of clay

SiLENtium IGNis (the silence of fire)

Silentium Ignis

With Luce dal Buio (Light from the Dark), the snail’s contemplative slowness transforms into a poetic nightmare. At first glance, the creature seems like the usual placid and humble garden figure, but upon closer inspection, the unexpected is revealed: a gaping, atrocious mouth full of sharp teeth, shattering the image of serenity and transforming it into a visual reflection on the double, on alteration, on the fear that lurks in everyday life. The work is inspired by the paintings of my friend Roberta Betti, exploring the theme of creation that escapes its author’s control.
But Luce dal Buio goes further: it can accommodate up to two candles or small LEDs, transforming into a source of soft light that makes the contrast even more powerful—the monstrosity that, paradoxically, becomes light and heat.

A piece of contemporary craftsmanship that unites design, symbolism and disquiet, perfect for those who love works that can disorientate, make you think and… fascinate.
